AV training for volunteer teams

Teach your team to run the room.

Training happens on site, on the console you already own, with the people who actually run Sunday. Start with a $50 system audit. Book a workshop when you want the team taught, or put the church on the series and stop thinking about it.

Bring everyone. There is no cap on how many people sit in, and recording the session is encouraged, because there is more in each class than one person will hold on to.

$50 deposit

System audit and good faith call

  • An initial audit of the system you already own
  • Troubleshooting on whatever is going wrong right now
  • A good faith recommendation, in writing

The $50 comes off the price of your first session of two hours or more, or off the Noisy Training Series. It is a deposit, not a fee on top.

A good faith recommendation means we start with how to get by for less, or inside the setup you already have. Churches run on budgets raised a dollar at a time. If that call is the only help you ever need from us, that is a fine place for it to end.

Two ways to buy it

One workshop, or the whole year.

Most churches start with a single workshop after the audit. The ones running a full calendar of services and events usually end up on the series, because the gig rate alone covers the difference.

Single class

Sound Systems Pro Workshop

One hands on session on your own console, in your own room, with the people who run Sunday. Book one, two, or three hours depending on how far you want to get.

$75 per hour

Your $50 deposit comes off the first session of two hours or more.

What it includes

  • Quarterly system audits and a plan for the year
  • Troubleshooting sessions as things come up
  • Three hour workshops as volunteers rotate in and out
  • $50 per hour gig rate when you need someone on the board

About two hours from Virginia Beach. That covers most of Hampton Roads and then some. Farther out is a premium and gets decided job by job, so ask rather than assume the answer is no.

How it works

Instruction, diagnosis, and a plan.

The training is periodic, comprehensive, and on site. It is built to make your staff and volunteers more capable while the equipment in the room gets better and stays that way.

It combines practical instruction with real problem solving. Kyle teaches foundational and advanced audio concepts using the system you already have, diagnoses the pain points in that setup, and points the team toward future ready equipment and processes that fit the budget you actually have.

Blending education, troubleshooting, and product insight means your team understands its tools and gets more out of the system. It also means the next decision they make about gear is an informed one, which is where long term sound quality actually comes from.

After the class

What your volunteers walk away with.

  • Set gain structure correctly and know why it matters
  • Build a service mix that holds up when the room fills
  • Find and kill feedback before it finds you
  • Work through a signal path when something goes silent
  • Run a soundcheck that takes ten minutes instead of forty
Your side

What the church provides.

  • Access to the sanctuary and the sound system
  • Your volunteer team, whoever runs a Sunday
  • A block of hours without another event in the room

No projector, no handouts, no prep. Show up with the people who run Sunday, and bring anyone else who wants to learn.

Book it

Send the request, get a date.

Tell us the church, the console, and roughly when. Kyle confirms the date and sends an invoice your treasurer can pay the same way she pays everything else.

Class questions

Before you book.

Who is the training class for?
Volunteer AV teams. No experience assumed. If someone on your team has been handed the console and told good luck, this is built for them.
What does the $50 deposit cover?
An initial audit of the system you already own, troubleshooting on whatever is going wrong right now, and a good faith recommendation. Good faith means we start with how to get by for less, or inside the setup you already have. If that call is the only help you ever need, that is a fine place for it to end.
Is the $50 deposit on top of the class price?
No. It comes off the price of your first session of two hours or more, or off the Noisy Training Series. A two hour workshop is $150 in total: the $50 deposit up front and $100 after the session.
What does the class cost?
The Sound Systems Pro Workshop is $75 an hour, booked as a one, two, or three hour session, with your $50 deposit coming off the first session of two hours or more. The Noisy Training Series is $200 a quarter and covers quarterly planning and audits, troubleshooting between sessions, three hour workshops, and a $50 an hour rate when you need Kyle on a gig.
How many people can we bring?
As many as you want. There is no cap. Bring the Sunday team, other volunteers, friends, and any youth who are interested, and record the session while you are at it. There is more in each class than one person will retain.
How far will you travel?
About two hours from Virginia Beach covers most of Hampton Roads and then some, at the normal rate. Farther out carries a travel premium and gets decided job by job, so ask rather than assume the answer is no.
Does the class happen at our church?
Always. On site, on your own system, is the whole point. Your team learns the room and the gear they run every week rather than a generic setup they will never touch again.
How often should we run it?
Churches usually book a first class to get the team on its feet, then a refresher every three to six months as volunteers rotate in and out. The Noisy Training Series exists for the churches that would rather have that on a schedule than remember to book it.
What if we do not have a system yet?
Then a class is the wrong first step. Start with the $50 audit so we can look at the room, and training comes after there is something to train on.
How do we pay?
Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, or a check. There is no card processor and no account for your treasurer to create. The deposit confirms the date and the balance is invoiced after the session.
What if we need to reschedule?
Tell us as early as you can and we will move it. Churches have funerals, storms, and Sundays that run long, and none of that is a surprise.
